Have you ever been somewhere with a HUGE crowd? I love to watch the news on Thanksgiving night…ya know the 10:00 p.m. newscast that shows the crowds of people lined up around the store so they can get that great deal on Black Friday? Or when I wake up on Friday morning and turn on the news and see the hundreds and thousands of people lined up at stores…I personally would never stand in line on Thanksgiving, but I know a bunch of different people who have made up those “crowds” and gotten some great deals.
Mark 3 makes a point of telling us about the crowds that flocked to see and hear Jesus. Mark 3:7…Jesus withdrew and a large crowd followed. Or Mark 3:20 Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered… Or Mark 3:32 A crowd was sitting around Him…
By now the religious leaders despise…ok they down right hate Jesus…because He has challenged them on their beliefs and what they taught. But crowd after crowd followed Him and they came from miles around. I don’t think the excitement was brought about by Jesus teaching as much as it was a desire to experience or see some of His healing.
You know what? There is nothing wrong with that. I think we’ve all come to the Savior out of a sense of personal need at one time or another. Maybe we’ve come with the hope that He can even meet our need.
You know what’s really neat to me? Jesus met their need – every last one of them, and He did it at the exact moment that someone needed it. Maybe you are part of the crowd, maybe you are looking for the Savior to reach out and touch you in a very real and personal way.
Friends, I gotta tell ya…HE ALREADY DID THAT! When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He paid the greatest price for your sin and mine, so that we could live with Him forever.
Today, when you are standing in line at the grocery store, or sitting in traffic, don’t feel that you are lost in the crowd. Jesus has called you by name and has met your need!
Have a GREAT day!
